From the first game, when they were fortunate to draw 2-2 with newly promoted Fulham it was evident something was not right. For a team that had relied on pace, energy and movement, they looked tired and leggy. The bullies were being bullied. Subsequent games have told a similar story. There have been bright spots, but they have been few and far between and have if anything just highlighted how poor they have been the rest of the time. The one thing in their advantage is that Klopp is losing fewer players to the World Cup than almost all of his rival managers. We will wait to see if that forced time off will be a good or a bad thing.

Can Brighton continue to thrive post Potter?

Brighton’s story, and indeed Graham Potter’s story were one that every neutral could buy into. A minnow punching above their weight again and again. Giving the bigger teams a bloody nose, and looking good in doing it. Potter’s departure to Chelsea was supposed to be the start of the end. But if anything it has actually made them better. Call it serendipity, or luck, if you believe in such a thing, but in a crazy way, Roberto De Zerbi may be the person to extend Brighton’s incredible form and actually establish them as a top-six club.
